Tour Day Info

WHERE TO MEET: Your tour guide will meet you inside the Welcome Center at 308 West Franklin Street to begin promptly at the designated time. The tour will finish on or near McCorkle Place, the oldest quad on the UNC campus, close to the downtown post office (0.6 mile from the Welcome Center). We encourage you to allow time to enjoy the videos and multitude of resources at the Welcome Center prior to your tour.

Tours are typically close to 90 minutes in length.

PARKING: There is limited parking at the Welcome Center. For parking info – either close to the Welcome Center or at tour’s finish – please check out parkonthehill.com.

Here is another resource, with a good map and calendar of events, that you may find useful: downtownchapelhill.com/.

AND MORE: During the tour, it is important for the group to keep pace and to stick together. And we ask that your cell phones be on silent during the tour.  This is the best way to clearly hear the stories and insights – especially since we will be outdoors.

As you can imagine, we will be crossing streets and walking well traveled sidewalks.  Please be aware of the uneven terrain. Please wear comfy shoes and dress for the weather. Unexpected showers easily pop up in the springtime here…and summer can be quite steamy and hot.  The Welcome Center will happily send us out with a bottle of water but you may like to bring your own.

Weather Cancellations: In case of rain or storms or other unexpected event, your tour guide will text you at least an hour prior to the start time IF the tour must be cancelled.

And finally, we invite you to enjoy downtown before and after your tour! The Welcome Center has a great calendar of events to consider as well as many local restaurants to explore.

We are excited to share Chapel Hill with you! See you on tour soon! With best regards from your Tour Guides & Hometown Ambassadors: Missy Julian-Fox, Maggie Funkhouser, Laurie Goldwasser, and Susan Worley.
